ARDENCY INN AMERICANA Custom Coverage Concentrate in Medium-Deep Golden and Deep Beige

ARDENCY INN AMERICANA Custom Coverage Concentrate is intended to be a versatile complexion perfecter. It can be used as a concealer, foundation or tinted moisturizer. It’s designed to be mixed with a water-based moisturizer of your choice to create the exact amount of coverage desired. It comes in 10 shades which can probably span a fair amount of skin tones. However I think they can stand to add a few more shades. For example based on the shade names, the brand has only one shade for fair complexions that’s pink-toned. While a lot of fair complected people have cool undertones, plenty have warm and neutral undertones as well. On the other end of the spectrum, there’s only 2 shades for people that are deeper toned.

ARDENCY INN AMERICANA Custom Coverage Concentrate Medium-Deep Golden

Medium-Deep Golden

I’m actually in between the 2 deepest shades, Medium-Deep Golden and Deep Beige. Medium-Deep Golden is a good undertone match for me but it’s just a tiny bit too light in shade. I mix a small amount of Deep Beige with it to get a better match shade wise. It’s meant to be used with a moisturizer, but I like to use it with Fresh umbrian clay mattifying serum. The serum is water based, so it mixes well with the AMERICANA Custom Coverage Concentrate and it helps to control my oily skin.

L’Oréal Magic Nude Liquid Powder vs Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup

L'Oreal Magic Nude Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup

The L’Oréal Magic Nude Liquid Powder is described as a ‘revolutionary liquid that transforms on contact, leaving a soft powder like finish.’ The Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup is described as ‘an ultra-lightweight formula that applies easily with an unforgettable sensation, leaving skin moisturized and conditioned for a flawless complexion.’

Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup Shade 10

I first purchased the Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup about a year ago. It was unlike any foundation I’d ever tried; down to the dispenser. The texture was like silk and reminded me of argan oil. Initially I was worried it wouldn’t work with my oily skin type, but much to my surprise, it actually helped keep the oil at bay for a few hours. The coverage in general is sheer, but it can be layered to a medium coverage. Another thing I like about the Maestro formula is it never feels heavy and makes my skin seem near perfect. One downside to this formula is it will accentuate dry patches or texture from things like acne in the process of healing.

L'Oreal Magic Nude Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup

The L’Oréal Magic Nude Liquid Powder retails for about $13 and is available in most drugstores. The beauty junkie in me is always in search of new products to try so I picked it up on a whim. The bottle design made it a bit difficult to choose a color match but I lucked out and picked the right shade for my skin. When I first applied the foundation I realized the similarities to the Maestro foundation instantly.

L'Oreal Magic Nude Soft Sable 332 Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup #10

L’Oréal Magic Nude Liquid Powder in shade 332 Soft Sable vs Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup in shade 10.

As you may be able to tell from the photo above, the shade is pretty much the same in both products. They both use Octinoxate 3% as a sunscreen, which seems to work well with photography. Also, the Magic Nude applied and wore just a well as the Maestro formula. Aside from the packaging and a slight difference in the amount of product received, it was impossible for me to tell them apart.

After realizing the two products were nearly identical, I did some investigating. I discovered that Giorgio Armani Beauty and L’Oréal Paris are both owned by the same parent company. With that said, it would stand to reason that the formulas could be so similar. There are however, a couple of differences that are a bit of a big deal.

First is the price. The Maestro Fusion Makeup comes in at $62 for 30ml were as the Magic Nude is about $13 for 27ml. The second is the shade range. The Magic Nude is available in 12 shades where as the Maestro formula has 18 shades. There are 11 shades lighter than mine in the Magic Nude formula, where as there are 15 lighter than my shade in the Maestro foundation. My shade in the Magic Nude is the darkest available but there are two deeper shades available in the Maestro foundation.

I imagine there’s probably some other shades that overlap between the two formulas as well so there’s a chance at a major savings money wise. Unfortunately if your shade falls outside of the 12 L’Oréal offers and you were looking to purchase this type of formula, you may have to shell out the $62 for the Maestro foundation.

The One And Only

The One And Only Tag

I’ve seen this tag a few times and thought I would give it a try. It actually wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be!

The Question: If you could only have one ______ what would it be? And, in a few words, why?

So here goes:

Primer – Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer SPF 15. The best primer I have ever used. Keeps oil away and it’s super light.

Base Product – Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H. I wear 460 Suede W. Builds to full coverage without ever looking heavy.  It lasts for several hours; even through sweat.

Concealer – NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Caramel. Another long-lasting product with a beautiful finish.

Powder – YSL Beauty Poudre sur Mesure in shade 3 amber.

Blush (cream or powder) – MAC Gingerly. It’s great for everyday wear and can be applied more intensely.

Bronzer – Guerlain Terracotta 4 Seasons Tailor-Made Bronzing Powder in Moyen-Brunettes. It’s a great matte bronzer and with 4 individual shades, it can double as eyeshadow as well.

Highlighter – Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light. Ready-made glow in a compact.

Make-Up Brush (single) – Real Techniques Blush Brush. This is my favorite brush to apply powders with.

Eyebrow Product – Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Soft Brown.

Eyeshadow (single) – MAC Smut. I love using this for smokey eyes.

Eyeliner – SEPHORA COLLECTION Long-Lasting 12HR Wear Eye Liner in Black. I would actually choose Inglot Gel Liner in 77  but I wouldn’t have a brush to apply it. The Sephora liner is a close second.

Mascara – MAC In Extreme Dimension Lash. Applying this mascara is almost like applying false lashes. It’s amazing.

Lipstick, Lip Gloss or Lip Stain – MAC Ample Pink Plushglass. My favorite nude.

Lip Liner – MAC Beet.

Lip Balm – EOS Lip Balm in Sweet Mint. It smells amazing and keeps my lips soft.

Nail Polish – Essie Muchi Muchi. It’s a beautiful sheer pastel pink.

I tag anyone who wants to give it a go!

BB and CC Creams For Dark Skin Vol. 2

BB and CC Creams For Dark Skin Vol. 2

Some of BB Creams in this group are new shade additions to existing lines and some been around for sometime now, however they are all new to me.  I’ve only worn them a couple of times.  With that said, I can’t do an in depth review, but I can give my first impressions of each.

MAC Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm SPF 35 in Dark Deep

MAC Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm SPF 35 in Dark Deep

I was glad to hear that MAC listened to the demand for more shades in the Prep + Prime Beauty Balm.  After all, their motto, ‘All ages. All races. All sexes.’, practically demands it.  The formula is light and provides very sheer coverage.  It has an SPF 35 and claims to re-texturize the skin.  I did notice my skin felt smoother to the touch as I wore it.

I’m in between NC45 and NC50 in most MAC foundations and I’m a 7.5 in the Matchmaster foundation.  In the Prep + Prime BB Beauty Balm I wear the deepest shade, Dark Deep.  With that said, I feel like someone who is deeper than NW45 or deeper than 8.5 in the matchmaster might have a hard time with the shade selection.

Clinique Age Defense BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 in Shade 04

Clinique Age Defense BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 in Shade 04

The Clinique Age Defense BB Cream Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is also a new shade selection within an existing range.  Clinique claims it to have a matte finish.  It seems to have more of a satin finish to me but that could be due to my oily skin type.  It fades on my skin after a couple hours but doesn’t leave behind a greasy mess which I appreciate.  I haven’t used it long enough to determine if any of the skin care benefits are true.

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-In-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector in Deep

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-In-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector in Deep

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-In-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector looks quite natural when applied but doesn’t work well with my skin type.  It slid off my face after just a couple hours of wear.  I was only able to extend the wear with applying a primer beforehand, but in doing so I feel don’t get any of the skin care benefits this product claims.  The shade match is great so it may work well for someone of the same shade but with a dry or normal skin type.

DiorSkin Nude BB Creme in Dark 004

DiorSkin Nude BB Creme in Dark 004

The DiorSkin Nude BB Creme has a light texture and a fresh scent.  The Dark 004 shade matches my skin tone well.  I’d say the coverage is natural looking.  It doesn’t cover any major dark spots but it does help to diminish their appearance.  This BB Creme adds a glow to the skin.  I find using a damp Beauty Blender sponge for application and then setting with an oil control powder keeps shininess away and allow the dewiness of the BB creme to show.  The one downside is that it only contains an SPF 10.

BECCA Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation – Tobacco

BECCA Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation Tobacco

BECCA’s Perfect Skin Mineral Powder Foundation is silky and provides a good amount of coverage.  It doesn’t settle into any of my lines and lasts a good amount of time without oxidizing.  Even though it’s a powder, my natural oils begin to peek through after about 3-4 hours of wear, so I make sure to apply a primer underneath to extend the wear.  I wear the shade Tobacco and it’s a spot on match.

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed – Opal

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Opal

The BECCA Skin Perfector Pressed is an amazing highlighter.  It’s a powder but it’s incredibly creamy and buttery soft when applied.  With oily skin, it’s quite a balancing act to maintain a shine free complexion but still allow certain areas to glow.  This product’s powder formulation makes it an ally in that fight.

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Opal

I initially intended to purchase the Topaz shade but it was very gold and I prefer a more peach toned highlight.  A little goes a long way with this highlighter, so apply it with a light hand and a fluffy brush.  Then buff it in and build it up to the intensity desired.

BB And CC Creams For Dark Skin Vol. 1

BB And CC Creams For Dark Skin

Finding a match for skin color related makeup can be difficult, especially for people with either very pale or very rich complexions. When it comes to BB and CC creams, I’ve found that options become fewer as shades increase.  There seems to be a couple reasons as to why this has been the case, however there are now quite a few options available for people on the higher end of the skin tone spectrum.  I’m going to share some of my favorites here.

Iman BB Creme Skin Tone Evener – Clay Medium Deep

Iman BB Creme Skin Tone Evener - Clay Medium Deep

This was my first BB purchase.  For some time, this was only product of its type to work with my skin tone.  My perfect match is the shade Clay Medium Deep.  The coverage is sheer, but there is a noticeable difference once applied.  I have oily skin and it seems as though once I apply anything makeup related, my oil production only increases.  I’ve noticed that is decreased when I wear the Iman BB creme.

Another great thing about this product is the shade selection.  There are two shades beyond Clay Medium Deep.  The only thing I would want to change would be the amount of SPF.  I wish it were a little higher, but who knows, increasing the SPF might cause problems with the color.  I always keep a backup, as I use it regularly as a part of my everyday makeup routine.

Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream – Dark

Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream - Dark

I almost didn’t try the Smashbox Camera Ready CC Cream because the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream didn’t work for me at all.  It was too red based, turned my skin an odd shade of gray-brown and seemed to intensify my skin’s oil production.  I’m glad I gave the CC cream a try because it definitely succeeds where the BB cream failed for me.

My closest match is in shade Dark.  It’s a half shade or so deeper than my skin which is good because Dark is the deepest shade Smashbox created.  I appreciate the neutral base of this shade and I think that makes it easier for people to find a match.  It does have a slight sunscreen scent when first applied but fades fairly quickly.  It doesn’t increase my oil production which is always a plus for oily-skinned individuals.

Covergirl And Olay Tone Rehab 2-n-1 Foundation CC Cream – Tawny

Covergirl And Olay Tone Rehab 2-n-1 Foundation CC Cream - Tawny

The Covergirl And Olay Tone Rehab 2-n-1 Foundation CC Cream is a new addition to my collection.  I’ve seen this product in drugstores before but never in a shade close to mine.  The name also is somewhat confusing because it’s labeled as both a foundation and a CC cream.  The research I’ve done suggests this is a repackaging of a an existing product with the addition of two new shades.

This product seems more like a light foundation to me. It has a good amount of coverage and it does not have an SPF.  It does have a serum included with the foundation which is to help with skin clarity.  I haven’t used it long enough to be able to comment on any skin benefits.  I’m in the shade Tawny, Soft Sable is the next shade up.  It does have a light scent but if someone is sensitive to fragrance, it could seem obnoxious, as it takes a good hour to fade.

Miracle Skin Transformer – Dark

Miracle Skin Transformer - Dark

The Miracle Skin Transformer doesn’t claim to be a BB or CC cream but I felt it belonged in this category.  It is described as a breakthrough 5-in-1 tinted skin enhancer designed to hydrate, prime, enhance, mattify and protect your skin in one simple step.  It does a lot of what it claims to do and you can see it when it’s first applied.

It feels like silk to the touch and skin seems more even, pores look smaller and it makes the skin matte.  The Miracle Skin Transformer also has an SPF of 20.  It has the smallest hint of a scent that fades nearly immediately.  One thing I noticed is a slight white/grey cast when initially applied but it disappears in a couple minutes and does not show in flash photography.  Some more great features of this products include the shade range, there is also a Deep Dark shade and it works nicely as a primer before foundation application as well.
